I chose this project as the best use of type by me this semester. I think that the change in size, color, and placement makes for an interesting composition. I know that this example has some problems with kerning but I feel that this is my most interesting and best use of text this semester. While looking at my other projects this is still the project that stands out to me as the most interesting to look.

I know that this journal is late, but I was busy finishing up my Typography project last night and it slipped my mind. I figured that its better late than never... This is my example of interesting type I found in Sharadin. I enjoy this poster and feel that the type that is used is interesting in itself, but the way that the type is presented is what makes this poster interesting.

This weeks assignment was to find an example of interesting type on food that I consumed. I haven't gone out much this break so I haven't come across anything very exciting. Today when I was helping clean up after our Thanksgiving meal I decided that the Cool Whip dish was the most interesting thing I've seen so far. I like novelty type such as the "hand rendered" type on this container. I also like how the type is made to look like Cool Whip and has a 3-D appearance.

I found a poster in my hall that I thought showed a good example of type as art. This is also an example of a rebus but I feel that a rebus is an example of type as art. The type used is simple and makes the word easy to read. I think this is a good example of type as art and really enjoy seeing type like this around campus.

I was having a hard time finding a good example of a Rebus until I stumbled upon a copy of Harry Potter my roommate had on his book shelf. The lightning bold that makes up one of the strokes of the P, adds a lot to the style of this book cover. I feel that rebuses are a great way to add to your text and make them more interesting. When used properly they can really add the over interest and message you are sending with your text.

Because today is Election Day I felt that it was the most appropriate day to complete my Inspirational blog entry. The reason that I have chosen this image as inspirational, is because this is the first presidential election I was able to participate in. This sign was a friendly reminder of that fact. I also enjoy the composition of this sign, the fonts and colors of this sign work well together and do a good job of leading your eye through the composition. Overall this is a good example of inspirational text I found this week.

I know this is late, but I found my example of very bad Typography. I was visiting my friend over in his dorm this morning and I passed this sign in the hallway. I relize that this is hand rendered sign, but the text they used for the word Halloween is a bad choice of text because it is extremely hard to read. This sign could be done so much better if they just took the time to choose better type and render it better.

This weeks assignment was to find an example of a good use of ligatures. I was working on my history midterm for class and as I was flipping threw the pages of a Graphic Design book I came across this image. This is an example of good ligatures just not the traditional use of them. This shows all the letters together as if they were ligatures and found it to be an interesting use of them.

This weeks assignment was to find an example of bad kerning. Tonight when I was waking down the hall I walked past our bulletin board and the word "important" jumped out at me as an example of poor kerning. The text shown was put on the board by hand, but the time was not taken to evenly space out the letters of this word. The text overall isn't done well, and if I could I would redo this bulletin board.

This weeks assignment was to find an example of "Bad" typography. While getting a drink at the fountain in my dorm I noticed how horrible this sign above the fountain was. The kerning is off between the letters and the letting is off as well. Another thing that I don't like about this sign is the way the text interacts with the two images on the page. It doesn't flow very well which makes this sign hard to read and annoying for me to look at.

This weeks assignment was to find something that we think is "good" typography. In my dorm room I noticed that the type on the O.A.R. poster on my wall was an example of good typography. The reason I feel that this is good typography is because the text is interesting and well kerned. I also like the placement of the periods at the middle of the letter rather than the base of the letter.

This weeks assignment was to find a hand rendered text somewhere around campus, and I stumbled upon this friendly piece of text next to the water fountain on the first floor of Sharadin. Because I was in an art building I wasn't surprised to find something like this, but found its simplicity and friendliness appealing. I rater enjoy the lower case letter i and have chosen it to be my letter of the alphabet this week. The reason why I enjoy the letter i in this text is because it stands out from the H and draws your eye to the dot above the line and keeps you interested in the text.

While walking down the hall of my dorm to my room I passed a poster on the wall and the letter O jumped out at me. The reason I chose this image is because it reminded me of the example of Figurative Typography found in our history notes. The reason it reminded me of Figurative Typography is because the letter O is interacting and becoming part of the image.

This week’s assignment was to find a naturally occurring letterform around Kutztown, and while I was working on my typography project I noticed that the leg of the chair I was sitting on formed the letter T. I chose to photography this as my letter because I like the metallic look of the chair leg. I also chose this letter because the letter T is the best letter in the alphabet!
